UKTA Looks for Broadband Connectivity to help LDC’s Since its creation in 1995, UKTA has strived to meet the needs of Governments, Operators and Regulators throughout the developing world and in particular least developed countries. Our Members and Associates are focussing on maximising the effective delivery of training and academic programmes in both the UK and overseas. With the advent of LTE we believe that it is becoming realistic to move our text based on-line Master’s Degree delivery to voice accompanied Power Point lectures and experiments are already underway with an extended portfolio of eLLM lectures available from our new Associate, University of Southampton by January 2012. Where students do not have high speed connectivity each module will be available on a CD which will be posted to the student’s home. Since January 2011 we have been offering the MCM by Blended Learning with our member Bucks New University together with a new LLM in ICT. The seminars associated with the programme are being delivered at Great Missenden Abbey in January, April, July and September. At the commencement of our second BNU MCM and first LLM we had the honour to have Dr Hamadoun Touré as our after dinner speaker at the welcome dinner. Our principal training organisation CTTS has been very much in demand providing cable training both in the UK and overseas and the broadband bubble has created considerable opportunities for an organisation with such a strong track record of fibre optic technology training. Our LLM in IT &T is now entering its third year at the Open University of Tanzania and our work at KIST in Rwanda will commence its 7th Cohort in January 2012 of the MCM and its 3rd cohort of the MSc in Operational Communications. High speed broadband by Wireless or fixed line will be extremely beneficial to the UKTA in its delivery of knowledge transfer to Africa, Asia and other developing nations around the world since the lecturers will be able to remain in the UK and content will be able to transfer from UK Universities to the student’s lap top in a matter of seconds be it text, voice or pictures. Our team of UKTA Professors with over one hundred years of collective experience have been called upon this year to deliver papers in China, Tanzania, Rwanda, Czech Republic, Switzerland, and USA. Finally, I look forward to welcoming you when we meet either virtually or physically when you participate on one or more of our many courses and events. Professor David P Mellor OBE Chairman UKTA
